The last time the three of us got away together was Berlin in 2024, so we were long overdue a holiday. We found cheap flights over a long weekend to Stockholm with very good times.
We got to the airport at 13:00 and got the obligatory airport pint at Wetherspoons. The flight took off on time, and we landed in Sweden at around 17:00. We got a quick train into the centre and then we were ready for meatballs and beers.
Night One - Meatballs And Many, Many Beers
We dropped off our bags at the hostel and even managed to get an upgrade to a room with towels. The room was very good value for what we paid. We then went downstairs to the bar to come up with an action plan for the night.
We found an authentic Swedish meatball restaurant nearby and stopped for dinner. The food was delicious. The bill, however, was not - I had no idea meatballs could be so expensive! This would foreshadow the rest of the prices in Stockholm.
After dinner we went out for many beers and then ended the night with kebabs.
Authentic Swedish meatballs - very expensive but tasty!
The post‑beer kebabs - a different class to the meatballs.
Day Two - Exploring Stockholm
The next morning we all felt a bit rough, so we headed out for a walk in the very refreshing air and found a café. Fika is a big thing in Sweden - it’s basically sitting down with a coffee and cake and relaxing. Perfect for us.
We had a few 7‑Eleven hotdogs and felt much better. We had a look around the shops and then headed back to the hostel to get ready for the night ahead.
Impressed by the hotdogs we had for lunch, we went to a highly recommended hotdog shop for dinner. It was very tasty. We then did a bar crawl back towards our hostel and found some great places along the way.
It was still quite cold.
A rare group picture.
Day Three - Parkrun
Amazingly, the next day I managed to get out of bed at 08:30 and make it to the local parkrun. This was no easy feat after only about four hours in bed. The route was good, but there were no PBs happening today. I got back to the hostel at around 10:00 and went for a nap to catch up on the lost sleep.
Later that day it was more of the same. We went out and explored more of the city before heading out for drinks and dinner. We got pizza that night and then took Lime scooters back to the nice bars we’d found the previous night. We ended up doing karaoke with some Swedish people, which was good fun.

A very tasty pizza!
Day Four - Avicii and Then Home
On the final day, I started with a run. We were close to Mojang Studios, creators of Minecraft, so I went for a look - it was closed, being a Sunday. After I got back, we packed our bags and checked out of the hostel. We headed to the Avicii Experience. It was good but quite short. We got one final coffee and hotdog and headed back to the airport on the super‑quick and frequent airport train.
I had to go and see Mojang Studios on my final run!
The dream DJ setup!
Conclusion
Overall, it was a great trip - very expensive, but we knew that before going. It was very similar to other Scandinavian cities I’ve visited, so I don’t have any real desire to go again.
